What are the 5 Principles of Reiki?

Updated: Dec 28, 2022

What are the 5 Principles of Reiki? Many people rely solely on conventional medical treatments to treat illnesses and injuries, but unfortunately, this type of treatment isn't always 100% effective. While there are some treatments that conventional medicine can treat, and possibly even cure, there are a number of conditions that get partially treated, leaving many people turning to alternative treatments to complement the treatment plan that their medical doctor has prescribed. Others refrain from seeking traditional medical care at all, while opting for alternative treatments instead. One rather popular and effective alternative treatment that many people turn to is Reiki. Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice that involves the positive flow of energy in order to relieve tension and stress, lessen pain, and much more. There are five principles of Reiki, and here is an overview of these principles, that, if practiced daily, can help bring you closer to achieving your health and healing goals. Just for Today, I Will Release Any Worry Worrying is not conducive to health and healing, and it can, in fact, impede the natural healing process of the body. By telling yourself that "just for today" you're not going to worry, you're taking things one day at a time to focus on refraining from allowing yourself to worry. By focusing on this daily, you will diminish the frequency and severity of your stress and worry, as worry leads to tension and stress. There is a cumulative effect, and you will eventually be completely free of worry if you are consistent. Just for Today, I Will Release Any Anger Anger is another emotion that is counterproductive when it comes to trying to achieve the goal of spiritual healing. Anger and resentment that is allowed to linger often becomes toxic, and it will fester and lead to negativity in your life. Resentment and anger can manifest itself as illness and rage, and it can even lead to alcoholism and drug abuse. Making a promise to yourself to release that anger for a single day can allow you to let go of this destructive emotion so you can heal. Healing from anger is only possible if you consistently practice letting it go on a daily basis. Just for Today, I Will Work Honestly When you're not honest, either with others or yourself, it can lead to guilt, and guilt is another negative emotion that will hinder your ability to truly heal through the use of Reiki. Guilt is the type of emotion that will quietly eat at you, even if you aren't aware that it's doing its damage. By vowing to be honest in everything that you do, you avoid further guilt, and you can simultaneously heal the negative effects of guilt you may have experienced in the past. Again, take it one day at a time, and as one day turns into two, two into three, and so on, you will slowly watch your guilt melt away and be replaced with something much more positive, which is pride. Just for Today, I Will Show Gratitude Many people fail to realize the true magnitude of gratitude. Gratitude is taking the time to give thanks to the things in your life, even if life seems bleak at the time. For instance, if you've lost your high-paying job and you're forced to downsize your life, you might feel as if you have nothing to be grateful for. However, there are always things in our lives that we can be grateful for, even if they're small things that you take for granted every day. Giving thanks to the things that are currently in your life attracts more positivity to you, enabling you to continue to receive abundance, even though things may not be how you want them in your life currently. It's easy to give thanks, and if you're willing to take the time to keep a gratitude journal, you can write down what you're grateful for on a daily basis. It isn't necessary for the entries to be long, as only a sentence or two will suffice. If you're not sure what to give thanks to, think about the little things that add up in your life to make you feel fulfilled. Do you like beautiful sunsets? If so, then the next time you're able to enjoy one, write down in your gratitude journal how grateful you are to have been able to witness such beauty. The more you focus on the things that are already in your life that you're grateful for, the more good things will come your way. Just for Today, I Will Be Kind to All Living Things Treating everyone (and everything) else like you want to be treated is a good motto to live by. You can't treat other people or even animals badly and expect to exhibit positive energy and feel good about yourself. Even if you're having a bad day, it still doesn't give you the right to lash out at others, whether they're family, friends, co-workers or strangers. Even lashing out at your pets or other animals is a no-no if you want to reach your full potential through the practice of Reiki. Reiki is a full mind and body experience, and if you're motivated to heal yourself in this natural way and become a better person, then you need to be kind to every single living thing. Again, start by taking one day at a time, and soon it will become a habit and you will find yourself healing and becoming the person that you truly want to be. As you can see, Reiki is a very involved and spiritual treatment that can help a person change their whole outlook on life for the better. By practicing the basics of Reiki, you can effectively relieve stress, anxiety, pain, and even help you grow spiritually.

Reiki isn't something that you seek out for one or two sessions and then quit, because in order to truly benefit from this amazing natural treatment, you need to have an open mind and be consistent.
